Seeing Memorials

These photographs of atrocity sites, memorials, military cemeteries, and battlefields reflect my interest in the violent turning-points that have formed our modern world - and how their commemorations tend to become elegiac, only partially legible, and sometimes a little offbeat. I work with toy cameras, a 4x5 view camera for more formal views and larger prints, and some digital color images.

The result of visiting sites all over the world, the work is a diverse library of images that are the material for sub-projects.
