Talk Tompkins
I did a series of portrait photographs of and audio interviews with some of the varied people that make up my home county of Tompkins in the Fingerlakes region of upstate New York. The county contains a "bubble" of prosperity flowing from Cornell University and Ithaca College. However, I paid attention to the many town, village, and rural communities rather than to academics or students.
A selection of imges is below. The interviews are here.
The photographs are taken with a 4x5-format sheet film camera - final prints are 30 x 24 inches.
Talk Tompkins was supported in part by an Artist in Community Decentralization grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Community Arts Council of Tompkins County. An installation at Tompkins County Public Library was made possible by a grant from the Gannett Foundation.
